Health Ingredients Europe, Natural Ingredients & NuW Announces the 2012 NuW Excellence Awards Finalists

The finalists have been announced for the 7th edition of the Health Ingredients, Natural Ingredients & NuW Awards programme. The NuW Excellence Awards, organised every two years (previously named the Hi Excellence Awards), recognises major innovations in the nutrition & wellness ingredients industry across 8 categories, including the overall Ingredients Innovation of the Year award.

The winners will be announced on November 13th during the awards ceremony, which begins at 18:00 after the close of the exhibition's first day of play. Fitorex – NuW Excellence Awards Finalist


Hungary, Budapest, 26.10.2012 – Fitorex was announced as NuW Excellence Awards finalist in the Weight & Hunger Management Innovation of the Year category by UBM plc main organiser of the Health Ingredients Europe event taking place at the Messe Frankfurt between the 13th and 15th November 2012. The winners of the categories will be announced at a drinks reception at the Messe Frankfurt from 6pm on the 13th November 2012.

Close to 40 entries were received into the awards with submissions coming from mainland Europe, Taiwan, China and the United States.

Chairman of judges Peter Wennstrom commented on the finalists: "The calibre of entries submitted and the level of interest in the 2012 NuW Excellence Awards programme was impressive. YASO is a new patented sprouted soya raw material, perfect for bakery, pasta, ready meals, meat or meat free food manufacture. The creators of YASO have combined the nutritional composition of soya, the health advantages of sprouted foods and the demand of large scale processing.

Germinated, processed, pasteurised and packaged using patent-protected processes, Yaso® has a neutral aroma and flavour. It is also a source of highly digestible and complete protein, fibre, and has very low content of carbohydrate and no cholesterol. As such, Yaso® is amenable to use in many food products that cater to trends in the European food industry such as gluten-free, lactose-free, cholesterol-free and natural products. With its gluten free pasta, Fitorex has also demonstrated that inclusion of Yaso® can reduce the amount of carbohydrates required to create a consumer friendly product; typical gluten-free products have a high content of carbohydrates.

While consumer awareness of the benefits of soy protein inclusion in the diet is high in Europe, this advantage is challenged by the inherent properties of soy including organoleptic properties – it adds beany aftertones in the food product – as well as the consumer demand for non-genetically (non-GM) modified raw material and the preservation of all the nutritional components of soy while processing. Fitorex has overcome all these issues with its innovative ingredient Yaso®, which contains all the synergistic beneficial phytonutrients of soy in a single product due to sprouting. The pre treatment of the soy beans by sprouting offers additional benefits like easy digestibility, lower allergenicity and no flatulence that some consumers experience when ingesting soy and soy based products. Additionally, this 100 percent natural product is created from non-GM soy.

Also being presented on the evening of the 13th November are two categories created and judged by IUFoST. These categories are the young scientist and the lifetime achievement awards.

Building on the renowned Innovation Awards, the NuW Excellence Awards 2012 will recognise individuals and business for their exemplary work and contribution to the industry.

The awards will be judged by a leading panel of industry experts who will evaluate your entry on its ability to demonstrate and drive innovation.
